Yesterday was quite the day. It began with me doing my regular cyber checks, which, as usual, took longer than I expected, causing me to wake the kids up 10 minutes later than I should. Some people may think 10 minutes may not seem like a very big deal and to Noah it is not. His busy body jumps right out of bed most mornings and hits the ground running. I am usually holding him back in the morning from running to be bus stop too early. So the 10 minutes for Noah put him at the bus stop right on time. For Cate, however, 10 minutes is the difference between her riding the bus and me having to take her to school. You can guess, I am sure, where yesterday fell. Which was OK because I had a ton of errands to run yesterday and taking Cate to school meant I could get started on my errand running a little sooner. After dropping Cate off at school in the nick of time, I decided to head over to Carfagna's to get some chicken and fillets that they had on sale (for an excellent price).
Upon pulling into Carfagna's at 9:15, I found out that they don't open until 10. Ugh. I resolved to stop back later because I couldn't see myself waiting 45 mins in the parking lot for them to open. I also couldn't pass up $1.73/lb on the chicken and Amy and I deserved $4.50/fillet for a special Sunday dinner.
So I decided to return to the 'ville and stop at Giant Eagle. I used to shop Giant Eagle fairly regularly but got out of the habit and now I know why. Holy Cow their prices are high. I am sure some guy back in the security office was watching me thinking, "What the heck is this lady doing??" I would pick things up and put them in my cart and think about the pricing and decide I could get it much cheaper at Meijer. So after loading and unloading my cart several times I had the items that I was going to purchase from GE and checked out. I loaded up my car with the few sale items I picked up at the Eagle and headed over to Meijer.
This was a trip I am sure Amy is glad she was not on with me because I was working with only a mental list and then was constantly price comparing in my head. While at Meijer, I began loading my cart with the many party food items that we would need come Sunday. Nearly 2 exhausting hours later I was walking out to my car. This is where the real problem begins for me. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering where I parked and I just have to walk in the general direction of where I think I parked. Yesterday was no exception for me where this is concerned, but within a few minutes I saw where I was parked and headed toward my car. So I am standing next to a Toyota Corolla and I am pressing my unlock button waiting for the car to unlock...which it was not...and I was starting to get frustrated. This can happen pretty quickly for anyone who has just spent the last two mind boggling hours inside their local Meijer. Here I am yanking on the door handle and pressing my "unlock" button on my keyless entry thing...basically looking like an idiot. Then I stop and think, "Wait who cleaned out my back seat. What the hell! THIS isn't my car!" MY car was the one parked right next to this one. After getting all my stuff loaded into MY car I looked at the Toyota Corolla parked next to my Toyota Corolla and realize that it isn't even the same color as my Corolla nor was the interior color the same. I was beginning to feel as though I was loosing my mind. All I could do was get into my car and head back out to Carfagna's for my chicken and fillet.
While at Carfagna's (for the second time), I was waited on promptly by another "family" member and found that I didn't even have to take a number while everyone around me had numbers or were getting numbers in order to be waited on. It's one of those happy moments when you realize that you are getting the "family discount". So I was in and out of Carfagna's within 5 minutes...a visit that could easily taken me 20 minutes if I had had to take a number.
Upon arriving home and I had just barely gotten in the door with my first load of groceries, when my kids' phone starts ringing and it's my dad. I answer and say, "Hi Daddy!" He says, "Hey. Check your hip." I check and realize I do not have my phone. I say, "You have my phone. ?Don't you." He says, "Yep. Now can you guess where you lost it." "Somewhere at the grocery store?" I say. He says, "Yep. They called me over in the eggs." I tell him I'll be over to get my phone after I put away my groceries.
So yesterday was mind exhausting. All the mental lists and price comparing nearly did me in. Thank god for my dad and him being at Meijer in the eggs when they called to tell him they had my phone...cause ALL I needed yesterday was to loose my phone after trying to get into the wrong car.
One of the top 10 reasons why it pays to have a big truck.
ReplyDeleteWhew, exhausted just reading.
By the by, I've loaded a cart twice at Giant Eagle and left it twice. They are damned expensive. But they have good cakes.
(And great burgers, Amy P grilled some amazing burgs the other night at her place..)
